Hot August

You can never have enough photos of sunflowers

I wish you could hear the amazing sounds of 40+ bee-eaters flying overhead and the swallows that drink water from the pool.  It's August and there are young birds everywhere, feeding, calling and enjoying flight.

August is a busy month at La Bastide with guests from all over the world,  visiting, either on holiday or to attend a wedding at Brametourte Chateau.  We have started to offer a taxi service to the venue and back, however, these can be very early in the morning!

A great place to relax after the wedding is our pool.  This month the pool temperature has ranged between 24 - 30 degrees (when its too hot I leave off the pool cover) which is perfect judging from the reviews on the home and away website.

Guests who stay at La Bastide are provided with a great holiday experience, whether it's visiting places like Albi, Lautrec or the Sidobre.  Eating great food and drinking local wine or just relaxing in the quiet of the countryside.

To-date we have had visitors from Australia, Belgium, Canada, Greece, France, The Netherlands, Spain, Scotland and other parts of the UK.

Cuq Tractor fair

This month on the 15th, a French bank holiday is the annual Lautrec Bread festival and Cuq tractor festival.

You can guess which one I went to...

Loads of people, good food, wine and beer. tractor ploughing competitions, fancy pigeons, chain saw demonstrations and my favorite vintage cars!

Evie my youngest, has become the resident female version of Gerald Durrell, collecting praying mantis, butterflies, lizards, fish, crayfish and crickets.  Most of the time they are released back into the wild un-harmed.

She feeds the chickens, collects eggs and even cleans them out.....happy chickens, then it's on to the cats and dog.  Evie is also a great helper whether is concreting, sanding, cooking or cleaning out the animals she is always there to help.

My kids are enjoying the school holidays and after eight weeks go back on the 2nd September.  This month we visited a huge Trampoline park in Toulouse, they are already planning a return trip!

At the end of August, I have some friends visiting and the kid's Grandfather will be here for a few weeks, so I am sure they will spend a lot of time in the pool.

When not on pool or collecting bread duty, I walk Lilou our dog early in the morning when it's not too hot to the 'Bald Hill' and back....followed by the cats.
